I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE A GOOD IDEA TO KEEP TRACK OF THIS BUT I DON’T PAY ATTENTION TO ART MUCH. WE’LL SEE. I MIGHT JUST DELETE THIS. THIS WHOLE WEBSITE SHOULD ACTUALLY BE ABOUT SHARKS, LIZARDS, AND DRACULA.

Shared to me by Jeremy Rourke at the end of the long winter of 2022 when I remarked that my fastidious chambers of chronologically labeled notebooks were useless. Hsieh, as best as I can explain, did lived art exhibitions wherein he would make an extraordinary promise and then keep it as a great feat of discipline and revelation on what time means to meaning. I mean like, living in a cage for a year or walking from one city to another in a country you don’t know. I also just like the colors and font he uses to illustrate and memorialize his experiments.

PETER BEARD

I don’t know who actually took these photographs, or which magazine published the proof sheet. I do remember that Peter Beard’s journals with repeated images like these either cut out of magazines or from his own camera, attached to notebook pages with writing and pictures of wild animals while he was in Africa was very inspiring to me when Patrick Brice showed the journal to me at a book store in Los Angeles. Long after that Peter Beard wandered into the woods to die, rather than doing so in an institution.

ALPHONSE MUCHA

I can’t remember when I started liking these. I probably inherited a calendar from my girlfriend around 2008. I like artwork with pretty ladies and flowers where the artist seems like he’s trying his hardest.

UNKNOWN ARTIST

Music zine displayed at Punk Exhibition, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit. October 2017 with Eric + Erica. I like the strict limitations on what can be included, as well as the lack of concern for whatever whoever might think about its value. I find it liberating.
