OCT 1, 2005 // FARM CONCERTS

MENDOCINO, CALIFORNIA Cerca October 2005 myself and several other musicians from California were paid by a conglomerate of local entrepreneurs to entertain agricultural laborers in a remote Northern portion of the state. The scenery was very good and the people were interesting. I slept alone in a blue tent in the cold night and was treated well despite my social disabilities. The music I played from what I remember, was not my finest work, but not a disaster either.

JULY 10, 2005 // OUR FIRST DAY IN BARCELONA

BARCELONA, SPAIN

The day was hot and humid. Emily and I walked around the city and looked at the art and architecture. We saw Antonio Gaudi buildings and anonymous graffiti. We saw a view of the whole city from Park Güell. At night time we played a game of charades with Mikey, his girlfriend, and their friend Matt in Mikey’s apartment. Matt played some country songs on the guitar, and Mikey and I played songs too.

JULY 7, 2005 // CHARLIE CRUIKSHANK'S AUNT + UNCLE

LAVAUR, FRANCE The train ride to get here from the coast of Italy, I remember, was very long, dirty and hot. Charlie was a good sport, and so was Emily, though she didn’t feel well by the end of it. Charlie’s Aunt and Uncle lived on what looked like a sunflower farm in the country side outside of the small town where the train stopped. There were a lot of buddhists around, and a temple with a peacock, and the Roman road from the third, or some early century, went through the forest on the edge of the sunflower field. Maybe around eight centuries after the Romans built the road, some early Christian enthusiasts built a Stations of the Cross exhibit. It was all delightfully over grown by the time Charlie, Emily and I arrived. The family had an intelligent dog and some young sons that liked soccer out in the yard where clothes dried on a line in the sun. They also had a swimming pool and delicious food that was grown by people who knew what they were doing. They lived slow and talked a long time at the picnic table drinking wine after dark in the summer time when the crickets sang. I slept in a single bed in one of the children’s rooms.

Later I intend on having what I actually wrote in my journal on this day but I don’t have time and right now I want to establish a consistent format for each day captured on here. My recollection is that we went to this beach and Emily water color painted. I swam in the sea. I really liked the color of the forest against the colors of the pine forest and the color of the water. It was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been and also just an absolutely perfect summer day. Be present children. Enjoy every one.
